2024 Sierra 2500HD Denali UltimateL5P 6.6, Allison 10

Bryce wanted this moved out of the Super Cruise thread and over here. it's long.

me: retired, Ocala, golf three mornings a week. my wife Deb has two quarter horses she shows around the southeast, and the truck's real job is a 2019 Sundowner three horse gooseneck with a small dressing room, about 9,800 lbs with hay and water. before this i had a 2017 Sierra 2500 SLT with the LML and 141k on it. the transmission started flaring between 3rd and 4th on the long pull up to the Horse Park and i decided i was done fixing it.

the truck. 2024 GMC Sierra 2500HD Denali Ultimate, crew cab, standard bed, L5P 6.6 Duramax and the Allison 10-speed. Summit White over the Alpine Umber interior. 12,310 miles in the dash photo. bank repo. the lender had it parked in a yard outside Tampa, roughly 100 miles from my barn. where. it was listed on mandaautollc.com. they're a broker, the lender owns the truck, and the bidding is sealed. you type in one number and that's all you know. other people's bids stay hidden, and yours can go up until the close. i left mine alone. the number. $79,250. that is the whole invoice. no buyer's premium and no delivery charge, since it was well under the 1,000 free miles. i wired it on a monday in May and it was in my driveway 11 days later. Florida sales tax on top, separately, i'll get to it.

i'm posting the number on purpose. three guys at the club told me i got took and one told me i stole it. they can't all be right. the m&a part went fine and that is not really my question. my question is the price.

congrats, and good on you for posting the number. before the club shows up, do you have the original window sticker? any GMC store can print it off the VIN if you ask the service writer nicely, and it's the only way to know what this exact truck stickered at. on an Ultimate almost everything is standard, so the sticker moves mostly on the gooseneck and fifth wheel prep, dealer added accessories and the destination charge.

send me the bottom of it and the build date. i keep a spreadsheet of what top trim HDs actually sell for against their original sticker. my wife calls it a sickness.

i'll be the club guy. respectfully, you overpaid, and not by a little.

comps i pulled this morning, 2024 2500HD Denali Ultimate, Duramax, 4x4, all of them:

  • 13,900 miles, Chevy/GMC store in Lubbock, $74,995
  • 9,800 miles, Carvana, $77,590 delivered
  • 21,000 miles, private party in Sarasota, asking $73,500

so the market is 74 to 77 and you paid 79,250 off the m&a listing for a truck you never sat in. that's what sealed bids do to people. you can't see the other bids, so you bid against somebody who might not exist, and in your head that guy always has deep pockets. it's a beautiful truck. the number is still the number.

fair, you brought numbers, here are mine.

13,900 miles, Chevy/GMC store in Lubbock, $74,995
i called that store in May while i was shopping. it is a Denali, not a Denali Ultimate. the salesman admitted it when i asked what color the inside was and he said Jet Black. different interior, no Super Cruise, different seats. their listing calls it Ultimate in the title and Denali in the description. it also had a $1,995 "appearance protection" line on the addendum and a $699 doc fee, and i'd have paid to ship it 1,500 miles.
21,000 miles, private party in Sarasota, asking $73,500
read the fourth paragraph of that ad. rebuilt title. it went under in Milton last October. i wouldn't take it for 60.

the Carvana truck is a real comp, i'll give you that one. it was 1,660 less than mine. it also went to "sale pending" in four days, i watched it.

the way i looked at it: the cheapest clean Ultimate HD diesel i could actually buy in north Florida in May was $81,400 in Jacksonville plus a $999 doc fee, which is normal here. mine was $79,250 out the door before tax.

and i'd already lost one. in April i bid $71,000 on a 2023 3500HD Denali through M and A and didn't get it. so i knew a lowball sealed bid just means you go home with nothing. i put in a number where i'd be fine winning or losing.

this is exactly what the buying board is for, keep going. comps with mileage and where they're listed are welcome. "got took" and "stole it" can stay at the golf club. i'm leaving every post up because both of you showed your work.

the rebuilt one is out, i missed it, my mistake. Lubbock too if it's a plain Denali, which i'll take your word on.

one more then. CPO at a GMC store in Katy, 2024 2500HD Denali Ultimate, 17,800 miles, $77,900. that's certified with the longer powertrain coverage, on a lot you can drive to and sit in. so i'm moving from "not by a little" to "about fifteen hundred too much."

the warranty piece bugs me too. the m&a people advertise a 6 month warranty like it's a selling point, but a 2024 still has GM's 3 year/36,000 bumper to bumper and the 5 year/60,000 powertrain on it. you're being handed something you already had.

OP sent me the sticker by PM and said i could post the bottom line.

  • 2024 Sierra 2500HD Denali Ultimate crew 4x4, Duramax, standard bed
  • options: gooseneck/5th wheel prep package and a dealer installed bed mat and splash guards
  • total with destination: $98,415
  • build date 03/24, first sold April 2024

79,250 is 80.5 percent of sticker at 13 months and 12k miles.

my sheet has 31 top trim HD diesels sold in the last 12 months with under 20k miles (Denali Ultimate, High Country, Limited, Platinum, Limited Longhorn). median sold price was 81 percent of original sticker. bottom quarter was under 78, top quarter over 84.

so he bought a hair under the middle. king's Katy CPO is 79.2 percent, but part of that gap is the CPO coverage you're paying for and a doc fee that isn't in the ad. i don't think either of you is wrong. i think the one i'd actually watch is what happens to Ultimates over the winter. they've been dropping faster than plain Denalis, because the people who pay 98 for a truck mostly want a new one.

GM dealer tech, 19 yrs2019 Sierra 2500HD SLT, L5P

whatever the number was, now make it last. a few things at 12k on an L5P that sat at a repo lot:

check the date on the DEF in the tank if anybody can tell you, DEF that sat through a Florida summer can go off. a fresh fill is cheap.

ask your dealer to run it for open campaigns and software updates. repos miss those because nobody's been bringing it in. the GM store doesn't care how you bought it, the VIN is the VIN.

and the power steps on the Denali and Ultimate. we replace a lot of step motors on trucks that see mud or sand. if one is slow or hesitates, that's the motor, and on a 2024 it's covered.

the broker out of Independence isn't going to know any of that, they move units, they don't service them. that's not a knock, just know your GMC service writer is your new best friend.

2021 F-150 Lariat5.0 V8, shopping

reading this from a 2021 F-150 Lariat that can't really pull my brother's 30 foot stock trailer, so i'm shopping HDs now (see the Super Cruise thread). two questions for OP.

how does the HD Denali ride empty? my wife rode in a 2500 SLT and said it felt like a hay wagon.

and did the GM factory warranty actually carry over to you, with the bank owning it in between?

ride: empty it's firmer than your Lariat, no point pretending. the Denali has the adaptive dampers and they take the edge off the worst of it. Deb says it's better than the old SLT and she would tell me if it wasn't.

warranty: yes. the factory coverage follows the VIN, not the owner. the GMC store here pulled it up and showed an in service date of April 2024, so bumper to bumper runs to April 2027 or 36k. king has a point that on a truck this new the M&A Auto Sales 6 month warranty is belt and suspenders. i didn't buy it for that.

the one thing that was wrong with it: the driver side power step was lazy, a second or two before it started moving, and one morning it didn't come out at all. read the tech's post, crawled under, and the motor housing was caked with dried mud from wherever it lived before. dealer swapped the motor under warranty. cost me nothing but a morning in the waiting room.

the thing i'd complain about is paperwork speed. the title came from the lender with the lien release attached, clean, no problems. but the bank mailed it to the m&a office first and they overnighted it to me, and all that took 19 days from my wire. the truck beat the title to my house by a week and sat in the barn because i couldn't register it.

once i had it, the Marion County tax collector took 20 minutes. Florida is 6 percent on the full price, and the county surtax only applies to the first $5,000, so that part was 50 bucks. call it $4,805 to Tallahassee.

back to eat a little crow. my brother in law in Midland wanted an Ultimate 2500 after Labor Day, so i shopped it for him with the same rules. 2024, Duramax, under 20k, clean title. cheapest one in Texas, Oklahoma or New Mexico was $80,900 at a store in Odessa, plus their nitrogen and window etch addendum. the Katy CPO is gone.

so either the market firmed up over the summer or my July comps were the bottom of the barrel. probably some of both. i still think sealed bids make people nervous and nervous people bid high. but i'll take back "not by a little."

late to this one. i've bought ranch trucks for 30 years, new, fleet sales, and a couple of credit union repos close to home. two things nobody's said.

comps on an Ultimate HD move more on hitch history and color than on options. a white one with a gooseneck puck that's been worn shiny reads as a work truck to a buyer in Billings and a toy to a buyer in Scottsdale, and they'll price it accordingly. OP, was the puck worn when it came?

and you two have been going at it for two months over about $1,600 on a $98,000 truck. that is one set of good LT tires on it.

UPDATE, since ranch asked about the puck and since this thread is really about the number.

puck was clean. no ball wear at all, the covers still had the factory finish. i don't think it pulled anything before me.

the number part. the Ocala GMC store has mailed me twice wanting to buy it. last week i walked in to see what they'd really do. 15,840 miles on it now, after a trip to the Aiken horse shows and back, about 1,100 miles round trip, 9.8 mpg loaded and a little over 15 empty. their offer: $76,000, cash, that day.

so on paper i'm down $3,250 plus the $4,805 tax for four and a half months of owning it. king will say that proves his point. i'd say a $98,000 truck lost three grand in a summer of pulling horses, which is about what it should lose, and the one dealer number we have says i wasn't far off.

not selling. Deb says the truck stays and the golf bag fits behind the back seat, discussion over.

would i bid on the m&a auction again? yes. but i'd set my number the night before and stay off the site the last hour. i went back and forth for 40 minutes before the close and that's the part i'd skip.
