2025 F-250: King Ranch vs Platinum vs Limited. Is the Limited worth the extra 13 grand on a truck that pulls a gooseneck?

2022 F-250 King Ranch6.7 Power Stroke

yes i'm the guy arguing about the Denali in the buying board. now it's my turn to spend money and get told i'm wrong.

current truck is a 2022 F-250 King Ranch, 6.7, 48k miles. the Abilene Ford store has been calling about the new body Super Duty and gave me three quotes, all crew cab, 6.75 bed, 6.7 high output, 4x4:

  • King Ranch: $89,460
  • Platinum: $91,985
  • Limited: $103,210

trade offer on my 22 was $61,000.

the King Ranch to Platinum jump is just taste. saddle brown leather and the ranch brand or the chrome and black look. but the Limited is thirteen grand over the King Ranch and the salesman's whole pitch was "it has everything." i pull a 30 foot gooseneck flatbed with a skid steer on it. does the Limited do anything for that? Ford's build site at ford.com lists the features but not why you'd want them.

i have a 2021 F-350 Platinum so i'm one body style behind you, but same idea. for towing nothing in the Limited matters if your King Ranch or Platinum already has the HO engine, the trailer brake controller and the tow tech package with the cameras. the Limited is the interior, the hands free highway system and the sound system, all things you enjoy on the way to the job, none of which help the skid steer.

what moves the tow number is the engine, the axle ratio and the GVWR on the door. check those three on every quote, they don't always match between trims on the lot.

the depreciation side. my sheet has Super Duty Limiteds losing more in dollars than King Ranches in the first two years, and pretty close in percent. so the Limited costs you 13k more up front and probably 4 or 5k more on the way out the door. somebody who keeps trucks 8 years doesn't care. somebody who trades at 50k miles like you do should.

the biggest jump per dollar on a Ford is Lariat to King Ranch, not King Ranch to anything above it. i went Lariat to looking at Denalis because i wanted a different cabin, not more stuff in the same one. if the King Ranch cabin still makes you happy, that's your answer.

on a gooseneck truck the thing i'd spend extra on is the 6.7 HO, which you can get on the King Ranch, and maybe the 3.55 vs 3.73 axle depending on your hills. i'd put the 13 grand into a better trailer before i'd put it into a nicer headliner. but then i'm writing this from a Ram with mud in the door pockets.

kept the 22. the store wouldn't move on the trade, and when i ran window's math with my 50k habit the Limited made no sense and the new King Ranch was 28 grand to drive a truck that tows the same flatbed with the same engine.

next spring maybe. the 22's front tires are due anyway.
